• What is the treatment like?
Preliminary steps include cleansing and shaving the area to be treated. The laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Controlled pulses of light penetrate the hair follicles and the heat generated by the laser discourages and ultimately destroys the potential for regrowth. After the treatment, the area is cleansed and sunblock is applied.
• How many treatments are typical?
Because the laser affects the follicles during the growth phase, more than one treatment may be necessary. During your consultation, you'll be advised to the approximate number of treatments needed.
• Who are the best candidates?
Men and women receive customized treatments according to hair color, texture and type, and location on the body. This treatment is effective on almost all hair colors and all skin types can be treated as well. Scheduling a consultation is the best way to determine your candidacy.
• Is the treatment painful?
The procedure is tolerated by most patients and typically only a mild sting is felt. No local anesthesia or pain medication is necessary, but topical anesthetic is an option for sensitive areas.
• What about side effects?
Side effects are rare but may include blistering or redness at the treatment site. This subsides in a few days. In some cases, the skin may become slightly lighter or darker. You'll be advised of any risks during your consultation. You'll need to limit your sun exposure 2-4 week prior to and post treatment.
